To Seek Justice

It started after Ricky & I watched Taken. Then we saw a video about the reality of the crime in the US, while we attending a concert in downtown Austin. Then I read a blog post about it entitled “God of Justice…Or Is He?“, by Brad Ruggles.
FINALLY, I was invited to a Tea Party where the founder of Stop Child Trafficking Now, Lynette Lewis, along with an Austin PD specialist in trafficking &
others spoke out against this crime & with well-planned ways to stop it.
I’ve learned so much since summer of ’09…like how children are lured & taken & held against their will, for years. I learned how this industry is growing fast in the US. ~ the fastest growing industry in the world, next to drugs.
Why should I care?
I care because I love children. Many people say that their innocence & childhood is being taken from them, but I believe they’re still innocent – they are not suddenly guilty. They are experiencing a childhood filled with fear, abuse and manipulation. They’ve been horribly brainwashed, and cannot escape. I care because God cares. He has unbelievable, impacting potential for every single person, and if a person’s life – their dreams, self-esteem, purpose, body image, emotional & physical health, etc. – can be sabotaged at youth, that amazing potential is never reached. I want to help children reach their potential – realize & pursue their calling.
The way these children now see themselves after such abuse and exploitation – the way they view the world and their Creator is now perverted. That intended potential will never be reached. For many girls, the plan God intended for their lives has been seriously altered forever. This grieves me deeply. But God has a way of bringing about good from terrible circumstances. And he also has a way of connecting people to stop injustices from happening in the first place.
I want to do something, even if it seems small…anything to help children remain safe from predators who aim to sexually abuse & exploit them for profit.

in ’07, we started giving as sponsors of a little boy in columbia, south america. we took this step in faith as we didn’t have the extra $ (on paper), but knew that we God would provide us $ to enrich a child’s life in every way.
a huge part of why we started was to integrate missions and a compassionate heart for the poor, into the life of my son. he got to choose the child we sponsored, whose birthday is just a week from braylon’s. he now keeps a box of coins by his bed for ‘jhonatan’ which he calls his ‘jhonatan money’. when it fills, we will take it to a coinstar machine & buy a gift or care-package to ship directly to his friend. meanwhile, we remain penpals with jhonatan, & try to remember him in our prayers together.

C H R I S T I A N P E N P A L S
i am so excited about our newest venture to help ‘the least of these’ – referred by prison fellowship ministry, i contacted beth michaels (cppnews@hotmail.com), co-director of C.P.P. she has a huge heart & loves to connect people with those who are lonely, in prison. her list of inmates who have requested a penpal and are just waiting…is not in the hundreds, but in the thousands and continues to grow. this is partly due to the general population not knowing about it!
ricky was on board w/me from day 1. i was kinda taken off guard at his excitement for it! he realized the immediate need for website modifications, contacted beth & has since redesigned it, making it more user friendly & functional. he chose to be a penpal with a male inmate. this is just the beginning, to help us all to grow in grace.
please consider becoming friends with and writing a prisoner. two-three letters ($1.29 in postage) a month + a little time can equal hope, insight, & friendship. you can make a huge difference in the life of someone on the ‘inside’.
