A few weeks ago I was on facebook & noticed an ad for a free concert, which I’m usually up for, if the talent’s there. I click, & see that it’s Shane Barnard, of one of my fave musician groups, Shane & Shane, along with his wife (since 3/’08) singer/song writer, Bethany Dillon.
We get a sitter, drive about 30 mi.s, & walk into the cafeteria of a middle school where a church (ecclesiaaustin) meets. Apparently, they’re friends of the pastor, so just decided to do a special night of music there, for free. CAN’T beat that. There wasn’t even a “love offering” taken for traveling expenses, & a smelly Shane B barely made three flights to get there on time.
They weren’t prepared – never had time to rehearse – but still sounded super together… told funny stories, exchanged flirty glances & must’ve said the word “awkward” 6 times. It was aaawe, cute!
Their 1st set included combined originals like Yearn, Vision of You, Let Your Light Shine, & When You Love Someone (which she wrote about him). They tried to take requests, but that didn’t turn out so well, forgetting lyrics & all. It was so funny.
Part II of the concert was a worship set, which my husb. was able to get a pretty good recording of, w/his iphone. 1st row seats has its advantages! I was in tears. God was there. Afterward, I stuck around for a minute & met Shane. We talked for a few. He told me the new (S&S) album will come out early Novem. so I’ll be all over that. I already know three new songs from it now!
The 1st newby is, Turn Down the Music…written about one of my favorite passages of scripture, Matthew 25: 34-43 – choosing to hear & see the hurting all around us, & when we feel helpless on their behalf, just continue to worship the Lord. Below, you can watch S&S workin’ out another new one i just love, with chords/ lyrics to ponder; it’s called, “Everything’s Different”.
I was so happy to sit 1st row w/my sweet love, Ricky, at such an intimate venue…to listen to really great talent from a couple in love with each other & with their God. All the glory was HIS. You don’t get that kind of date night often.

Chelan, just ran across your blog on the concert. Thanks so much for coming and for telling about our church! It was a great night, and we loved the back-and-forth between Shane and Beth. Did you know they are expecting their first child? So excited for them. Did you happen to go to the concert at Concordia around Christmas? Blessings to you, and come back and visit us sometime. We are still at Small Middle School, every Sunday at 10:30.
