lyrics to a new song: Express it Confess it Embrace

this song just reflects how i feel about people increasingly growing inward – i guess growing isn’t the right word. we’re regressing to become more introverted & more self-reliant. sometimes i wish i could push a time machine button & swooosh -we’re all back to the 50’s like in ‘the truman show’ when there were no garage door openers…no self-check-outs…no email or texting or atm’s. it’s like the goal these days is to decrease human interaction as much as possible. i dont know bout you, but that makes me sad. so i wrote a song about it – wanna hear it, hear it goes:

express it confess it embrace

by, Chelan Rene’ Russ

l see you’re holdin’

quite the load

can i walk beside you

down this dusty road

see, i know you’ve got a story

ya know it…never hurt – no one to talk

but it seems like society…keeps takin’ a step back from unity. we replace a

face w/another machine & we praise advancement of technology

what would happen if we did life face to face?

express it, confess it, embrace

make the time to touch…take a chance and feel

express it, confess it, embrace

you – gotta want to

sacrifice

free up a hand to

serve a brother; realize

how love is the best investment

you don’t always bank on a return

(prechorus/ chorus)

(dont ya think our… lives would change if… {repeat chorus})

go on, express it, confess it, embrace

adlib:
go on a walk, party on your block, send a letter in the mail, bbq
volunteer, spread the cheer, raise
a hand tell ’em what you’re goin’ through
express it, confess it, embrace

“Jesus” – a song about seeing my reflection in Living Water

Jesus!

By, Chelan Rene’ Russ

10/2006

The way I lived last week, even last night

Has not been a reflection of you, Lord

The very things I claim are so important

I’ve put myself above and just ignored

::

Oh, let everything I do

Let everywhere I go

Let every word I say

Seek your glory and your fame

::

Jesus!

Jesus!

Jesus!

Oh the power in that name…

Jesus!

Jesus!

Jesus! (Repeat)

::

The power in my life is seeping out

I’m … finding myself so dry and thirsty

I don’t know what my purpose is; I doubt (but I believe)

The sun came up this morning with new mercies…

::

So let everything I do

Let everywhere I go

Let every word I say

Scream out your holy name…today!

Here’s my attempt to video this song; I think I tried it a few keys too high 🙂 oh well!

Last Night’s Jonny Lang Concert at the Paramount Theater

Wow.

Last night, Jonny Lang, in his late 20’s, 6-string, western snap-shirt and torn jeans, took the stage & delivered one amazing show. The band seemed entirely different than it was when we saw him at the Rogue Theatre in OR  3 yrs ago, but still unbelievably rocked. Especially his only BGV, Mr. Jason Eskridge  who just blew us out our seats w/his pipes on the Stevie Wonder cover, “Livin for The City“.  Loved the songs, If we Try & Thankful, but one part of the show that was jus’ jaw-droppin’ was when Jonny shared the stage for a guitar duet with Austin’s own Eric Johnson (to see proof of this guy’s other-worldly musicianship, you gotta watch this vid of him playing “Cliffs of Dover” @ Austin City Limits in ’05). Crazy, mad skills. One legend along side one in the making.

Ricky & I were dumb-founded as to why it seemed PC to stay in your seat during most of the concert. I was dancin’ as much as a white girl can dance and still be seated, every song. I think I’ll skip my ab workout today.

And alas, there was, during the encore, a bold declaration of Jonny’s faith in the Lord. My favorite part. Tears just welled up & my arm was raised to heaven like I had magnets in my fingertips, in gratitude that this young funky soul, in all his fame & glory, would play a song for the glory of JESUS & to share his Inspiration w/ultimately thousands of blues fans, during this tour. (BTW, here’s a cool clip of an interview w/JL about his “Turn Around” tour. And for a more extensive interview/article about his past written by Christian artist, Sara Groves, check out a previous post i wrote in October ’08, here.)

So, back to the encore. Before playing a raw, acoustic vsn of my favorite of all his sec’l songs, Breakin’ Me, he played my favorite & classic worship song. I heard a solitary, “Hallelujah!” & one “AMEN!” about half-way through & I know the song & the Spirit resounded in the hearts of many who recognized it. I bet they remembered it from growin’ up in the church & a desire to please & live for Him returned. Oh, my Jesus, may every word out of my mouth & every song I sing “be a sweet, sweet sound in your ear”.

I love you Lord, and I lift my voice

To worship you, O my soul, rejoice!

Take joy, my King, in what you hear, May it be a…

(These videos aren’t from last night, but they are from the same tour. I also found the song, “I Love You Lord” which is titled as “Breakin’ Me Intro”).  Here’s the worship song in its entirety. Praise God.

a children’s song for art time

You’re Mine, I’m Yours

so i’ll be teaching these precious lil guys (8 of ’em + 1 girl) and thought – how cool would it be to sing a song together about God creating us like art projects…as we prep for or make art projects ourselves? so this is what God’s given me so far … inspired by these scriptures:

* I will be your God and you will be my people

* I knit you together in your mother’s womb

* I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me

i’m still workin on the melody ~ my mom said it sounds jewish, like “Jehovah Jirah” – not what i was aiming for!

burn us up, shane and shane!

my favorite song right now? ‘burn us up‘, by shane and shane. lyrics from the latest album, “pages“, display honesty and transparency, continually bringing the listener back to the most important source, Jesus Christ.

‘burn us up’, when you learn & sing it yourself, provides a fresh way to express to God a higher level of brokenness, surrender & complete devotion. ironically, this song gives me chills, especially when the music dies out a bit 3/4 into it as they sing, “and even if you don’t… Continue reading

a blog break

just a little social experiment i’m doing ~ i’m going to see how differently i prioritize / allocate my time this week without reading or writing posts. they say what you put the most time in is the best indicator of what you value most. if that’s true, then i need to channel every drop of my creative energy & time into my kids, espec. this week.

but when they’re down…(if i’m not) i’ll be one songwritin’, book readin’, guitar playin’, scrap bookin’ fooo!

ps ~ feel free to visit www.braylon.com during this next week for newer pics of our lil family! i’m learning how to create “lightroom” galleries, categorized by the month so i can take over updating the website & get us (and anyone viewing) totally current. yeah for me!!
